Once I am up on that lifeguard stand, I am alone with my thoughts. Watching people swim is relaxing (and sometimes entertaining!), but after 7 hours, you have had a lot of time to think!
My favorite time of morning is after the sun rises. Regulars for a water aerobics class slowly trickle into the water. Discussing the water temperature. Talking about their morning so far. Catching up on the past week's events. I receive occasional nods, acknowledging my presence. Watching over them. Making sure they are safe and happy. I love listening to their conversations. Their lives are so interesting! Unique and different. Most who attend the water aerobics are old and wise. Stories of Waikiki in the 60's float up to my ears and I am fascinated and attentive. Usually the only time I actually interact with them is if they have a question. Or issue. Or need me to do something. Turn up the radio. Put in the pool stairs.
Is this how God feels?
A miniscule glimpse of God. Sitting up above. Watching. Loving every tidbit he hears of our day. Getting an occasional nod, acknowledging His presence. Only interacting with Him when we need something.
4 The Lord is exalted over all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like the Lord our God,
the One who sits enthroned on high,
6 who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like the Lord our God,
the One who sits enthroned on high,
6 who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
-- Psalm 113:4-6
I will be spending a lot of time, watching swimmers at the pool. I cherish the moments that God has given me to be still. Work out wedding details. Ponder my scripture memory. Praying for so many things.
I have also started serving with Eric in Club Beyond. I have loved getting to know these military kids. We've already had lots of adventures. Pontoons. Sand bars. Water fights. Bus rides. Club night. Bingo. Songs. M&M games. Birthdays. Small group time. All within one week! Please be praying for this ministry. I am so excited to be a part of it!
In Him,
Risa

ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific analogy, Risa! God is indeed our Lifeguard. I'm so glad He tossed me a Life Saver! :)
